HOLY SHIT. I did that bag thing too. So funny. Off to ignore my laundry again and go shoot for the third time this week. God what I wouldn't do for a seat at the coffee shop!

Nice piece.

I've kind of been there off and on for the past nine months since moving back to Vietnam.

At first I had an idea to set up a PR/social media consultancy and then I got scared and decided it wasn't a good idea to move back after so long away and expect to set up in business immediately.

So I took an editing job. While editing I also played with the idea of writing articles for magazines and while they started to grow in numbers the kind of money they would likely bring in would essentially keep me at the volunteer stipend level of living I was trying to rise above.

Also, while it's hypothetically possible to do a lot of work to make the low pay-per-article start to be worth something - it's less easy to find the sheer weight of work to make that possible.

So, it seemed that this was work for the young and (sometimes literally) hungry, as the start of a career rather than a thirty something (not so far away from fortysomething) to make a living.

I briefly accepted a post in a "proper" PR company only to find we were a bad fit for each other.

And now I'm back to plan A - the PR/social media consultancy and I was right the first time around.

The beauty of it is clients tend to be on a retainer so those between-times quiet bits don't come around and its possible to budget and possible to do good work without worrying about "what's next".

I think ultimately those quiet times scare me too much. The option may be a life of nine to five (and the rest) but there's a pay off.

Anyway, like I said, nice piece.
