Poh Si and Mayank’s Wedding-Penang, Malaysia
About a month ago I photographed my dear friend Poh Si’s wedding in Malaysia. She was a beautiful bride, so comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I also had the pleasure to meet her husband Mayank for the first time, such a good man and I’m so happy for both of them. I must say the two of them did such a wonderful job in front of the camera that they’ve messed up my whole week because now I have to reorganize my whole portfolio because of all the new images I have from their special day
.
I use my Photoshelter account for all my clients for high res downloadable galleries and so clients can easily embed a slideshow online. Here is a selection of my 50 favorites.

Giles and Asia’s Wedding-Hoi An
Giles and Asia were different than most couples in that they didn’t have a traditional shot list such as cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc. They just wanted coverage of their special day and trusted me to interpret that for the most part how I wanted to.Thank you to Asia and Giles for hiring us on your special day. The ceremony was quick and the party was long and all in all we had a great time. Here is a selection of my favorite images from the shoot. I’m playing around with some different toning techniques so some of the images are a bit different than my normal style.
On a side note Niek(my intern) did a fantastic job complementing my style very well. Once Niek posts some of his shots on his blog(I’m pushing him to blog more) than I will put up a link.
Engagement Shoot-Giles and Asia
I’m still in the process of editing but thought I’d share a couple images from Giles and Asia’s engagement shoot in Hoi An. I’m in the process of editing 2 weddings and 3 engagement shoot with another engagement shoot set for Tuesday. Tis the season for weddings.
Ishiah and Jai’s Wedding, Petaluma, California

I met Jai a few years ago through an ex-girlfriend when we both shot part of a video project together. We kept in touch on and off as I would update him on my travels. Jai had done a lot of traveling throughout India so we have that bond among travelers.
About two months before his wedding he asked if I was going to be in San Francisco in September and if I would be available to shoot his wedding. I checked on tickets and planned a few other shoots in San Francisco, one for The North Face(blog about that coming soon) and the other an engagement shoot that I will shoot in Sacramento next year.
The setting for the wedding was his friend’s small farm in Petaluma, California. We scouted out the location a few days before the wedding where I met his bride to be, Ishiah(possibly the coolest combo of names for a couple I’ve ever met). I hired a friend and extremely talented photographer to shoot with me, Stephen Lam.

We walked through the schedule with Jai and Ishiah and found our locations for portraits while drawing up our game plan for the big day.
The rain threatened to damper the day but it never came and the sun peaked just in time for our portrait session. While I didn’t know Jai and Ishiah very well they are both very spiritual people have touched many souls as was evident with all the touching speeches delivered by their friends and family.
It was great a great success for Mott Visuals as we expand into more and more markets doing destination weddings around the world. Here are the results from our day with Ishiah and Jai:

Tien & Jason’s Engagement Shoot-Following the Weather

I was referred to Tien and Jason through a good friend of mine. I shot my friends sister’s wedding in Santa Monica a few years ago, so it’s always great to know a customer is still happy years later.
I was back in SF for another wedding so I decided to shoot Tien and Jason’s engagement pictures while I was there. Time was limited while I was in SF as I was busy with a few shoots so I didn’t get to meet the couple beforehand. It’s a plus that I work as a photojournalist and I often have to meet people and within moments photograph them in an intimate way. It’s my job to make them comfortable but I must admit Jason and Tien were naturals and little work was required.
We had some beautiful light so we started at the Exploritorium in SF to get them warmed up. I shoot about 95% using natural light so I have to pay attention to what is going on outside and make adjustments accordingly. I know SF well from living there for about 7 years and I have my internal rolodex of locations.
The fog rolled in as it often does and on the fly I made a location change. I took them to a spot I use to walk past on my way to the gym when I lived in SF. Our original plan was to head to the beach to get a view of the Golden Gate Bridge but the fog was ruining our plan. I made a pit stop to the forest and it was so amazingly beautiful, just as I remembered it. As we finished up the fog burnt off and we rushed to Baker Beach to get our beach/bridge shots.
The sunset was fading and as I hiked down the rocky path I realized I took a wrong turn. The old path that I knew had eroded. I called Jason while I was halfway down and told him to drive further down and look for a proper pathway.
He probably didn’t realize I had to climb back up a torn up path and when I finally escaped the crumbling rocks I sprinted to catch up with them pretending that at wasn’t out of breath.
We arrived at Baker Beach to a perfect sunset and the modeled for me effortless as I snapped away in the final light of the day.
I must give a shout out to my Canon 5D Mark II for making the final moments of light still appear vibrant.
Great few hours and I look forward to shooting their wedding next Summer.
